IWD 2025 - Accelerate Action: Reflections from AWS Ladies That Launch
International Women’s Day is here again – and this year, the call to Accelerate Action feels more urgent than ever. Conversations around diversity, equity, and inclusion are facing increasing resistance, and the progress we’ve made is not guaranteed to continue. That’s exactly why this year’s theme resonates so deeply. Now is not the time to slow down. Now is the time to take action.
I had the privilege of speaking at AWS Ladies That Launch as part of a powerful panel on Decoding Bias, alongside Dr. Matilde D'Amelio, FHEA, Sasha Rubel, Caroline Grant and hosted by Zoe Hominick. We tackled some hard-hitting topics—why women are still struggling to stay and progress in tech, how unconscious bias shapes workplace culture, and most importantly, what real, tangible action looks like.
Owning Your Space
Beyond the panel, one of the most impactful moments of the event was Tara Rule’s session on Building a Personal Brand You Love. It was a powerful reminder of how we shape our own paths, the confidence we bring to the room, and why it’s so important to own our space unapologetically. Her words truly resonated with me, and I know they’ll be something I revisit when I need a reminder of who I am and what I stand for.
And speaking of owning space—my t-shirt for the evening couldn’t have felt more fitting: "Obstinate, headstrong girl" (thank you, Jane Austen). Because in a climate where advocating for inclusion is being met with pushback, headstrong is exactly what we need to be.
The Power of Community
One of the best parts of the evening was the people. Events like these are a testament to the strength and support within this community. Seeing so many incredible women come together—each with their own journeys, challenges, and victories—was a powerful reminder that we are stronger together.
What Comes Next?
So, this International Women’s Day, I ask everyone—leaders, allies, colleagues, and friends—what action will you take?
Will you advocate for someone who isn’t in the room?
Challenge biases in hiring and promotions?
Push for more inclusive policies?
Whatever it is, let’s commit to doing rather than just discussing.
A huge thank you to AWS, Mandy Carter, Cheryl Razzell, and everyone who made this event possible. And to every incredible woman I met—let’s keep pushing forward, together.
